Greetings, my name is Daniel.
I am in my 20th year of teaching. My style of teaching highlights alignment, breath and focus, and will help you to explore different ways to approach the traditional poses and flows, in a way that is unique and suitable to your body. We might feel differently on different days that we practice and my method of instruction incorporates this. My classes also give a nod to modern exercise methods of building core awareness and conscious engagement of muscle groups, with instructions on how to mindfully breathe and focus.
I stay focused on the tasks at hand: moving, breathing, engaging and releasing all as a means of staying present in your body and in the moment at hand. I feel that it is my job to guide you in the practice, and nothing more. Therefore, I stick to physical instructions including how to harness the mind, in order to help you use your mind and breath to focus, exert or relax, all in the name of building strength, resilience and elevating your self-awareness. My intention is to help guide the practitioner in order to do the work of building perspective in order to align and refine in ways that can help benefit the rest of your life - cultivating deeper awareness and inner peace, with consistent practice, of course!
I discovered Yoga via the physical practice, Asana. From my very first class I was amazed at how wholistic it was. My body felt wonderful, my mind felt clear and my spirits were lifted. There were no weights, no running, just my body on this rectangular mat attempting to put myself into these shapes and make these fluid movements and I couldn’t believe how worked over I felt!
After years of practice, training and teaching, I have learned so much about the whole scope of what a Yoga practice can truly be and that there is so much more to learn. One thing that has become clear is that the mind, breath and spirit are inextricably woven into the physical practice. By incorporating the whole being, Yoga has come to embody so much. For me, it is the means by which I understand myself, the world around me and the relationship between the two. That realization is the foundation of where I teach from, and while moments of deeper profound understanding may occasionally happen, the journey of the practice is a glorious one with many benefits, far beyond the physical.
Please join me and reach out with any questions; I hope to serve you on the mat soon.
